These liposomes can effectively deliver glutathione into cells, increasing intracellular GSSG levels and affecting the structure and function of proteins through protein S-glutathionylation.
By conjugating glutathione on the surface of liposomes, the targeting of liposomes to specific cells can be enhanced. For example, in retinal cells, liposomes conjugated with glutathione show higher fluorescence signals, indicating a higher delivery efficiency to the inner nuclear layer of the retina.
