In recent years, the health benefits of curcumin have been continuously explored. Remarkably, curcumin, a natural plant compound, has been found to meet the health needs for preventing hair loss.

1.A study titled “691 Topical curcumin promotes induction of the murine hair cycle” was published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. The research found that topical application of curcumin could initiate hair growth during the telogen phase in C57BL/6 mice, with effects similar to small molecule JAK inhibitors like tofacitinib and ruxolitinib. Curcumin influences the hair follicle cell growth cycle by inhibiting the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, particularly JAK3. Additionally, curcumin affects the PI3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK pathways, further promoting hair growth. [1]

2.Another study titled “Anti-androgenic curcumin analogues as steroid 5-alpha reductase inhibitors” was published in Medicinal Chemistry Research. This study evaluated the inhibitory activity of 12 natural analogues of curcumin and other plant-derived compounds on steroid 5-alpha reductase (S5αR). The research found that curcumin and its derivatives (such as demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin) have significant S5αR inhibitory effects, potentially offering applications for androgenetic alopecia and related conditions. 3.A study titled “Efficacy of a mixed preparation containing piperine, capsaicin and curcumin in the treatment of alopecia areata” was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. This study included 60 patients, randomly divided into two groups: a mixed preparation topical intervention group (containing 0.03% capsaicin, 0.1% curcumin, and 0.1% piperine) and a 5% minoxidil intervention group, for a duration of 3 months. The results showed significant hair growth improvement in both groups post-intervention, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Specifically, the average SALT scores and follicle conditions at the end of 12 weeks were similar between the mixed preparation group and the minoxidil group, with efficacy rates of 63.33% and 70%, respectively. Although curcumin combined with other ingredients effectively improved alopecia areata, it did not outperform minoxidil in short-term interventions. [3]
