As early as 1965, British scholars discovered that phospholipids can spontaneously form bilayer vesicles (micelles) in water and named them liposomes via electron microscopy. In other words, liposomes are bilayer structures spontaneously formed by lipid molecules or lipids in water. The common liposomes are generally made of phospholipids (amphiphilic) and cholesterol. Amphiphilic phospholipids form a bilayer structure, and cholesterol supports and maintains the bilayer structure.
The development stages have evolved from early traditional phospholipids that were "plain" liposomes with water-soluble drugs, to antibody-targeted immunoliposomes, long-circulating liposomes grafted with protective polymers, as well as long-circulating immunoliposomes.
- Good Biocompatibility (good safety)
- Can load both water-soluble and fat-soluble compounds
- Has sustained release effect
Gastric juice pH 1-2; - Pepsin breaks proteins down into peptide chains
Small intestine: Intestinal juice pH @ about 8 - absorbs 90% of nutrients - phospholipid is a kind of fat, absorbed in the small intestine
- High Bioavailability (1)
- Significantly prolongs blood circulation (non-fasting conditions) (2)
- Increased Bioavailability: Bioavailability refers to the amount of a nutrient or compound that is able to enter the body and have an active effect. Liposomal ingredients own a much higher bioavailability than traditional one, which means that a smaller dose can have a stronger impact.
- Improved Stability: Some nutrients are sensitive to heat, light, and humidity, which lead to break down or less effective. Liposomes can protect these sensitive compounds from degradation, making them more stable.
Overall, liposomal ingredients effectively deliver nutrients to the cells in your body. If you are interested in maximizing the effectiveness of your supplements, trying liposomal formulars.
